Call to Artists, Ashland Fire Station No. 2

The City of Ashland Public Art Commission is seeking an artist(s) to create site-specific original exterior public art for placement at the new Ashland Fire Station No. 2.  The Fire Station is located at 1860 Ashland Street.  This opportunity is open to established professional artists living in the Northwest (Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana) and California.

In May of 2010 Ashland voters approved general obligation bonds, not to exceed $3 million to replace the 45-year old Fire Station No. 2.  Construction is expected to begin in early April and continue through September of 2012.

One half of one percent of qualifying City of Ashland projects to construct or purchase a public building is dedicated to public art (AMC 2.29.180).  A selection panel, separate from the Public Art Commission will be formed to evaluate the proposals received from artists (AMC 2.29.100).  The panel will forward their preferred proposal as a recommendation to the City Council for final approval.  The selected artist will receive a maximum commission of $15,000 to realize their work.
