AUGUST 25, 2012: THE HUMAN CONDITION: A STUDY OF SOCIAL, CULTURAL & PERSONAL ISSUES
Our 2012, "The Human Condition", an International Call for Entry is in conjunction
and to be exhibited with Mark Seliger's "When They Came to Take My Father" Opening
November 10th, 2012 Exhibit. "The Human Condition" is a phrase typically used with
respect the generality of situations that humans face in 'getting along with each other
and the world', situations that are difficult to encompass in some way because of hang-ups
or predispositions of one kind or another or just simple ignorance -"What did I do to
wrong him?", "Why can't we get along with each other?". The "The Human Condition" is,
for example, the material of poetry in general and the lyrics of most music. It's various
"secular" or even religious situations, lovers in warring and religions. The
"quality of life" as in some parts of Africa and anywhere in the US. Perhaps the most
obvious examples come right off any daily newspaper -the 'irresolvability' of the
Israeli-Palestinian problem, letters to Dear Abby and their answers.
The "The Human Condition" encompasses the experiences of being human in a social,
cultural, and personal context. It can be described as the irreducible part of humanity
that is inherent and not connected to gender, race and class. It’s a search for purpose,
sense of curiosity, the inevitability of isolation and fear of death.
