“Electron Constellation”, oil on wood, 10×10

I love continually playing with the macro / microcosm and I see the bees I’ve been painting as like little island planets with their own contained ecosystems and landscapes. I got really stuck halfway through this one and didn’t know where to take it. On a road trip returning from Lake Chelan last month I was driving into the sunset and saw ever stunning and beautifully mysterious lenticular clouds over Mount Rainier. It was just the thing I needed to complete the composition. The continual conversation between nature and painting practice is a never-ending scavenger hunt!

This piece represents number nine in my series exploring the nature of numbers. Number nine symbolizes completion, reproduction through the elements of nature powered by celestial energies and harnesses the creative energy of all proceeding numbers.

“The Beauty of Holiness”, oil on wood, 14×14.

Life’s explorations have led me to archangels, the first being, naturally, the peacock angel whose historical imagery and meaning has absolutely captivated me. Melek Taus is said to be an emanation of god, a benevolent angel who has redeemed himself from his fall, becoming a demiurge. The story goes something like this: Melek Taus was the first to emerge from darkness in form of the seven rainbow light. He first manifested as a rainbow around the sun and as a peacock sitting upon a pearl created by Lord Krishna. This pearl then exploded into the seven rays of rainbow to become the physical universe. From this array of colors, Melek Taus manifested from the color blue because blue is the color of the sky and heavens – the source of all colors. The remaining colors were then used to create the earth out of the substratum of the remaining pearl. Melek Taus blessed the earth with his rainbow peacock rays and endowed it with multicolored flora and fauna. He placed two pieces of the fragmented pearl above and below the earth. In one fragment he placed the sun, in the other he placed the moon. From the remaining scattered pieces he created the stars. I created this painting from imagery and colors received after deep meditation on this entity. In the future I plan to create more pieces using the literal imagery (rainbows!).

Number ten in my series on the nature of numbers represents the culmination of all numbers before it in which a work reaches its true completion and full potential then returns back to the monad, or number one, to start the cycle anew.

“The Night of Decay”, oil on wood, 36″x36″, $2,400

This peacock painting is my fun excursion into Ultramarine Blue, the Wheel of Fortune tarot card and Jupiter. All the flowers in this composition are poisonous. It was said in ancient times that the peacock consumed venomous animals and plants then converted the poison to its brilliant iridescent-colored feathers.

“The Night of Decay” will be hanging in an art show at the new Ents and Tents Terrarium Gallery space in Seattle’s Belltown neighborhood, opening this Friday from 6-9. 1223 2nd Ave. Purchase inquiries may be directed to [email protected]

In creating this painting, I found the number which speaks to me most vividly. It’s essence is the Trinity multiplied three times. Nine represents the ultimate, perfect expression, the highest achievement in any endeavor. The Greeks referred to nine as “the horizon” as it lies at the edge of a shore before a boundless ocean of numbers that repeat in endless cycles the principles of the first nine digits.

“The Lunar Phase of Evolution” is currently on display at Confluence Gallery in Twisp, WA. Purchase inquiries may be directed to [email protected]

“The Black Lodge”, 12″x12″, oil on wood, $450

I’m part of a group show called “Otherworlds” at Confluence Gallery where the final three paintings in my Numbers series are on debut. The show will be up through May 20 in Twisp, WA.

“The Black Lodge” explores the number eight which is associated with spiritual elevation or salvation. Creation results in the combination of the four elements; fire, water, air, earth with the four qualities that form them; hot, wet, cold and dry. Several ancient cultures embraced the concept of the grandmother spider weaving the web of matter, intricately crossing polarities, electrons and protons. Also, jumping spiders.

This commissioned moth is my first painting of the year, completed last month. Some spiritual breakthroughs occurred in this one…the concepts of raising our vibration so the unseen may become visible. The camouflaged moth will become visible once we train our eyes to focus in this dim earthy light.

Number 7. The Heptad symbolizes the completion of a divine journey. The title
“Rainbow Bridge” refers to the Buddhist term for the path traveled from
the lower path the the higher path through the seven chakras. The
imagery of the painting is mainly drawn from The Pythagorean concept of
the Music of Seven Spheres, the musical vibration of the seven planets
in ancient alchemy.
