Angel Painting : Praying Angel, 11 x 14 watercolor and ink collage by Linda Abblett Watercolors, November 2015

Praying Angel, 11 x 14 watercolor and ink collage

As my website was being renovated, I created a praying angel painting for the GoodBean’s Angels show! And now that I have a new blog, I wanted to make this praying angel painting the subject of my very first post. This is the GoodBean’s third annual December Angels show, but the first I have participated in. Their call to artists says that the angel art artists submit does not have to depict traditional angels, or even Christmas angels, but artist’s interpretations of angels. The assignment is very interesting and results in a great variety of different kinds of angels for the exhibition.

I didn’t have a painting of an angel ready to share, and though the angel I had in mind was a more traditional Christmas angel, I thought I would take a different approach to create one for the show. This angel is 11″ x 14″, a watercolor and ink collage. I wanted to paint a praying angel, and began by working on the background in watercolor. Separately, I created the angel, adding details in ink on top of the watercolor. Then I trimmed her and collaged her onto the background, which adds a nice dimensionality to the painting by making her “float” in the starry night sky. I am really happy with the heavenly effect.

My Praying Angel painting has already attracted many lovely compliments, and will be on display with the angels of other southern Oregon artists at GoodBean Coffee in Jacksonville, Oregon until the afternoon of December 31, 2015. GoodBean Coffee Co. is located at 165 South Oregon St. Jacksonville, OR, 97530. If you might be interested in giving this angel a home, she is $250.00. Please contact Hannah West at 541-899-2012 or [email protected] if you would like to make your purchase before New Year’s Eve. After the end of the exhibition, please contact me.

Merry Christmas!
