MARCH First FridayFREE Community Art Event

March 4 @ 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Featured Upstairs Studio Artists: The Wonderful World of Wool.

Felted Wool Creations by Jo Ann Manzone, studio #9, and Liza Hamilton, studio #3

This month features two our uniquely talented fiber artists, Jo Ann

Manzone & Liza Hamilton. The deceptively simple and extremely complex properties of felt can be seen in beautiful Jo

Ann’s flowing garments, and Liza’s intricate sculpted creatures.  Explore the magic of wool.

Featured Photographer of the Month: David Lorenz Winston

David Lorenz Winston is an award-winning, internationally recognized photographer based in Talent, Oregon. A selection of his photographs entitled “Fleeting Moments” will be on display at The Photographers Gallery at the Ashland Art Center from

March 4, 2016.

David is particularly known for his winter landscapes. However, his work is not limited to the natural landscape. He is equally at home reflecting on the human condition and uncovering surprises in the ordinary. He brings a unique way of seeing to his work expressed through humor, irony, timing and mystery.

One of David’s favorite visual quests is finding candid moments in which people are totally themselves. He tries to unite the elements of timing, irony and design into these images. These new images represent just a small cross-section of his work in this genre.

David has received many honors for his work, which has been exhibited and published nationally. He was artist in residence at Crater Lake National Park and in 2014 won a Haines Philanthropic Foundation Grant.

Featured Musician: Daniel Sperry

Daniel Sperry  is an innovative, genre-stretching cellist, composer, and evocateur from Ashland, OR, who specializes in creating Musical Portraits for individuals as markers for special occasions and as gifts for loved ones.

He performs all over the country in house concerts featuring these portraits, the poetry of Rumi, Hafiz and others along with his original music, opera arias, and standards.

Featured Photographer of the Month: Julie Bonney
‘An Exploration into Black & White’
Julie is departing from her usual work in color to explore the world of black and white.  She recently took a class in Black and White Photography and loved how the subtleties of a subject could be drawn out using these techniques.  By removing color, one is left with a photograph that allows the space for the viewer to take in the nuanced play of light and the shapes and textures of the subject.  Come take a deeper look with Julie as she explores flowers and simple landscapes created using the timeless technique of black and white.

Featured Musicians:

Celeste Rivard 5-7pm, Acoustic guitarist and singer, will perform a diverse range of melodic acoustic guitar songs.  You won’t want to miss Celeste’s spectacular voice accompanied by her guitar.

Pre registration required. More info
In this intensive class you will explore the linoleum reduction printmaking process. Each student will learn techniques to carve a linoleum plate, apply ink and print. In order to make a linoleum reduction print you must carve a linoleum block, print it, carve it again and print it again over the first print. You can do this many times to one block. This creates a print with many different layers of colors or values. In this class there will be an emphasis on color theory and applying the elements of design to printmaking. You will also cover methods of registry, using the press and hand printing techniques. Students may bring a notebook for note taking.
