Ashland New Plays Festival (ANPF) Women’s Invitational Schedule Announced

 

Ashland, Ore — Ashland New Plays Festival today announced the full week’s schedule for the ANPF Women’s Invitational, which takes place March 20-27, 2016. Three prize- winning playwrights selected from 50 who were invited will have their winning plays produced as dramatic readings in matinee and evening performances at 1:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. March 25 – 27 in the Music Recital Hall on the Southern Oregon University campus.

 

They are Martyna Majok for Cost of Living, which will be directed by Penny Metropulos and stars Armando Duran, Regan Linton, Christopher Imbrosciano and Valerie Huntington; Lauren Yee for King of the Yees, directed by visiting artist Holly L. Derr and stars Leah Anderson, Joseph Anthony Foronda and Annie Yim; and Grand Prize winner Jiehae Park for Hannah and the Dread Gazebo, directed by Terri McMahon and still being cast.

 

Additionally, the playwrights will be joined by the Kilroys co-founder and Women’s Invitational Chair Laura Jacqmin and ANPF Host Playwright EM Lewis in Parity, A Playwrights Roundtable moderated by Dr. Lue Morgan Douthit, director of Literary Development and Dramaturgy at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. The Roundtable will be held Wednesday, March 23 at 7:00 p.m. in Meese Auditorium on the SOU campus.

 

Jacqmin and Lewis will also conduct a workshop for playwrights Saturday, March 26 from 10:00 a.m. to 12 noon at the Headwaters Building, 84 4th Street in Ashland. The event is presented under the auspices of the Dramatists Guild Fund Traveling Masters program, and DGF executive director Rachel Routh is expected to attend.

 

The ANPF Women’s Invitational is a conscious effort to address parity in theatre by presenting outstanding plays from the emerging generation of nationally prominent female playwrights.
