“New Directions:
Perhaps dimensional, Perhaps intuitive” Watercolors by Elaine Frenett
This gathering of newer pieces swerves strongly from Elaine’s usual approach. An inner yearning to move into a new way of expressing hatched from the play and process she has so come to love: visual art journaling. With no agenda, the pigment, be it wax or watercolor, was slathered onto the surfaces. And from there whatever whispered to her, she followed.
“It’s like leaving myself behind, and finding myself at the same time,” says Frenett. “Won’t you come see if you can hear the whispers, too?”
As always, visitors will find galleries, open studios, art, and artists on all three floors of the Art Center. There will also be refreshments and live music.

Annual Holiday Salon
Sue Yamins is one of the featured artists in the Annual Holiday Salon. Two of her sculptures are currently included in a national juried exhibition at the Erie Art Museum in Erie, PA. “Focus: Fiber – a collection of innovative and inspiring works that exemplify the vibrant world of fiber arts today”.
Sue uses gourds as her base and a coiling process to create the sculptured basketry.
“The designs are wood burned into the gourd and colors are applied with dyes. Once the gourd is completed the coiling begins. I like to use a variety of materials for the coiling. They can be made of pine needles, grasses, cattails, fiber rush or polished hemp. I also use different materials for the stitching including waxed linen, raffia, artificial sinew, silk and wool.
Each project begins with an idea and then develops and changes as the piece is actually made.”
Oak Leaf Studio
Still-life Florals and New Water Paintings
Falling water creates rivers and creeks, and nurtures colorful blooms that lift our spirits and remind us of balmy weather. Oak Leaf Studio is featuring a new painting of Lake Tahoe, which you may have seen “under construction” during the Open Studios Tour. Artist Leif Trygg has completed this mixed media piece created by using both watercolors and pastels and it is now up for viewing.
Taking a cue from nature again, Trygg observes the world around him and translates those images into personal statements. His series of still-life flower paintings depict Shasta Daisies, roses, bouquets of peonies, and more. Each is a contemplative view of individual blooms rendered in compelling tones and whimsical but classic settings.
Originals as well as prints and cards will be available for viewing and purchase.
