Art and Soul

“Fool the Eye and Feed the Soul” Paintings by Nancy Zufich

About every 2 or 3 years I like to “fool the eye” by painting a Trompe L’oeil mural. I take a theme like cats, or birds or cookery, showcasing paraphernalia on that theme, painting them so realistically that you’re tempted to reach out and grab them off the “shelf”.  I enjoy the challenge!
And what “feeds my soul”? Things that happen unexpectedly on my paper, like when a shape appears “out of the blue” to surprise me with its beauty. When I did “Midsummer Night” a month ago, the image appeared magically and it changes each time I see it. I keep my mind open so I’ll be ready to receive the magic if it’s offered.

“For me, photography is a way to blend the real and unreal, and record of a brief point of time and space. The moment the shutter clicks open—exposing film or digital sensor—is a moment captured for all eternity.
“This collection of images, captured over the course of a few days in the summer of 2013, is an attempt to capture the ethereal feeling of dusk in the Siskiyou Mountains. The soft light and vivid colors encourage me to experiment with my camera.”

Annual Holiday Salon

Our Annual Salon will include work by all gallery artists on a rotating basis during the holiday season. Featured work includes paintings, encaustics, woodcuts, monoprints, sculpture – mixed media, bronze, wood and ceramic.

Carol Ingram is one of the featured painters and her recent work is a departure from the familiar landscapes that collectors have enjoyed in the recent past. Having been an artist all her life, Carol has explored many subjects and her current research takes us into the realm of mythology.
