Art in Bloom at Art du Jour

Art Blooms in Downtown Medford, May 10th and 11th

Art du Jour Gallery is a proud participant in the 2014 Art in Bloom Festival during Mother’s Day weekend, May 10th and 11th in downtown Medford.  The gallery is located at 213 E. Main, Medford, across from Vogel Park.  In the main gallery, enjoy seeing the work of 22 local artists.   Floral paintings, abstracts, landscapes, digital art, sculpture, ceramics and more will be exhibited.  A silent auction of giclee prints will be held; plus there will be small canvases for sale. Any mother would love one of these inexpensive original paintings, created by our members, complete with an easel for display.

Demonstrations by artists of Art du Jour Gallery will be given throughout both Saturday and Sunday.  Dodie Hamilton will show the use of gold leaf in watercolor paintings.   Her work is noted for vibrant color and the fluid sparkling quality of her medium.  She is best known for renditions of the iris, her favorite flower.  Yvonne Kitchen, a sculptor, will demonstrate techniques that she uses for her highly detailed renderings of domestic and exotic animals.  Dixie Kinser, director of the gallery, will create abstract works as Deanna Martin, also an abstract artist, explains concepts involved with this art genre.  Stop by the booth outside of the gallery to see these demonstrations.

Our two Guest Artists, Katharine Gracey and John Dodero are exhibiting in the Salon gallery of Art du Jour through May.

Twelve paintings painted in a style reminiscent of posters from the turn of the century from Gracey’s “CIRCUS, CIRCUS” collection are on display.  Gracey has been inspired by the scenes that she saw in Milwaukee, WI as people gathered to see the Ringling Bros. Circus Parade each summer.  As she says, “I was captivated by the magic of the Circus and knew that someday I would paint these colorful memories from my youth.”

John Dodero was introduced to pottery in the 1970’s, later starting Dodero Studio Ceramics specializing in decorative ceramics and raku pottery.  Dodero has developed a simple and powerful design sense fusing Asian and Native American design.  He creates beautiful pieces with a traditional yet contemporary style. At the studio, the use of fluxed glazers usually causes a random crazing pattern over the classic ceramic forms.  Dodero’s catchepots are very effective to showcase an orchid or other houseplant.
