Featured Exhibit Portrait Slam
Based in Medford, Portrait Slam is an event-based organization fostering creative community, collaboration and creativity, is our featured exhibit for September. Photographers involved in the exhibit are: Brielle Alden, Aaron Alden, Rachel Lindsey Routh, Tom Pitts, Travis Toll, Debra Thornton Photography & Rebel Louise Photography.
On June 9th, Portrait Slam organized a special photo shoot featuring six photographers, Tiffany Walker of ReFashion Consignment, and residents of Ashland’s Skylark Assisted Living & Memory Care facility. Facilitated by activity director Jeremy Johnson and his staff, the afternoon was spent in creative collaboration, laughter, storytelling, and bridging generational perspectives. Each resident modeled clothing and accessories provided and shared with the photographer’s own unique style, personality and perspective. Portrait Slam chose to present these images in black and white to emphasize that each contribution – both resident and photographer – while beautiful as an individual work of art, is also inextricably connected a more powerful whole.

Guest Artist Sheri Dinardi in Salon through September

“Crystal Earring” by Sheri Dinardi… image provided by artist
On her website Sheri writes: “Painting for me is an expression of life. Simple everyday beauty surrounds us. I am especially moved by light, whether it is the rising sun or light spilling across the form of a person. As primarily a painter of people, I enjoy the unique privilege of standing before a beautiful living human being. It is there that you observe the beauty of the colors of light, warm and cool tones spilling over the form. Beyond the imagery is the person hood of the model that seems to emanate into the room. How does one capture it all with mere paint on a blank canvas? There is our challenge… to communicate life and beauty to our viewers. As a artist I desire to paint images that bring joy, inspiration and a sense of hope to the viewer. Most importantly, I hope to express the beauty of creation in such a way as to honor our Creator who gives us life and breath; and inspires me every day with His amazing masterpieces.”
