Art du Jour November 2020 News

In November, Art du Jour Gallery features the works of two distinguished artists: Millie Clarke and Susie Lee.

November 3 – December 31
Featured Studio Artist Millie Clarke
Retrospective

Longtime artist Millie Clarke specializes in colorful acrylic abstract art with texture. Her upcoming exhibit is a retrospective of her many years of painting. In her own words, “As I continue to experiment with new ideas and techniques, I hope that my abstract paintings inspire people to think, to feel, and to let each person bring his/her own experiences to the viewing.”

Her upcoming show will display some of her favorite works over the past few years.

November 3 – December 31
Salon Artist Susie Lee

Susie Lee was raised in the rural Owens Valley, California, loving nature, drawing, and woodworking. Art came naturally to Susie. With stubs of #2 pencils from school, on spare newsprint from her father’s newspaper office, she constantly drew the family dogs, cats and hamsters, the horses in nearby pastures, and the creatures she saw in the Sierra mountain wilderness. She also loved wood. When she was seven or eight, she built a miniature western town on her bedroom floor out of wood she scavenged around town.

Susie graduated from UCLA in the mid-sixties with a degree in English, torn between becoming a writer, an artist, a geologist or a forest ranger — or all four. She started her own advertising agency with a friend. After retirement, Susie decided to move to semi-rural Talent, returning to the passions of her youth: animals and art. She loves the morning sounds of roosters crowing and a far-away cow eager to be milked.

After taking about 3 years off from Art du Jour membership to study oil painting with Penny Simmons (a fine artist who paints in the style of the Old Masters), she will be displaying several of her oils as a guest artist in the Art du Jour Salon in November and December 2020.

Safely Visiting the Art du Jour Gallery

Art du Jour Gallery is an artist’s cooperative featuring the works of 17 local artists. The gallery has been making the appropriate modifications to how we safely showcase our members’ artwork. Since floorspace limits our capacity for gatherings, we must limit the amount of people standing within our confines at any one time. However, in the event we reach our capacity of 10, we will provide a drink of cold water and a place to sit and visit with one of our friendly artists until space allows.

Private Viewings

Private viewings are by reservation only and are encouraged outside open business hours. Please contact the gallery at (541) 770-3190, through email at: [email protected], or by contacting your favorite Art du Jour artist.
