During the month of February, the artists of Art du Jour Gallery will show their love of Southern Oregon by displaying pieces for the theme “Home is Where the Heart Is …Southern Oregon.” Dodie Hamilton-Brandon’s watercolor “Table Rock View” is a colorful imaginative representation of a Rogue Valley scene. Barrie Smeeth’s love of the Rogue River has inspired many of her under water rock paintings. She enjoys staring dreamily at the water’s movement around rocks. “Into the Blues” with its unusually vibrant rock colors conveys her feelings about rafting on the Rogue in the afternoon on a hot August day, as if the rocks held the sun’s fire under water. Enjoy these and other scenes of Southern Oregon during the month of February.
The works of two digital artists, Ron Hodgdon and Robert Sharp, will be featured in the Salon gallery. Guest Artist Hodgdon’s most recent images display a whimsical, illustrative side of his artistic work. The highly colorful computer images of imaginary creatures and objects are created by his freehand drawing of each detail using a standard computer mouse as an illustrative tool. All elements are separate pieces of vector based art, rendered and placed to create unique compositions. Hodgdon’s versatility in the use of mediums and techniques has developed over the years from experiences in the wilds of the United States and Canada. He now resides in Talent.

Robert Sharp is a skilled digital artist and Photoshop master of 20 years. Sharp uses his Photoshop skills to create digital paintings from photographs. Using his unique process, he can be as photo-realistic or as painterly as desired. Sharp says,” I am always looking for that perfect balance of photo-realism and painterly expression.” He uses his own custom bristle brushes in Photoshop to make hybrid photo-paintings. After retouching a photo using common techniques in Adobe Camera Raw, Sharp resizes, re-crops, and changes lighting. Using a Wacom tablet, he hand paints on a blank layer above the image. “The end result might surprise you.”
