Art du Jour Gallery Features Edgy Art by Martin Ball

Martin W. Ball’s stunning and captivating abstract work will be featured at Art du Jour Gallery, 213 E. Main St., Medford from October 4 –Nov. 29.  Ball is a versatile artist who began working with fractal flame software in 20ll to create images for use with his original music, now available on the internet.  There are many reasons why Ball loves creating art with this software.  He says that “fractals are the geometric foundations of reality itself – virtually everything that we experience in nature is generated from underlying fractal mathematics…”  To create his artwork, Ball randomly generates flames from software, and then tries random permutations, perhaps tweaking the underlying algorithm or trying different color combinations.

Once selected, flames are rendered from the fractal generator software to create a single layer of what will become a multi-layered image.  Ball continues to work with the flames in Photoshop and other image-editing software to create the final multi layered captivating composition which he blends together with different filters checking for any adjustments to hue, saturation, color, and various other effects.   To complete the process, Ball plays with radial and bilateral symmetry plus uses asymmetries for a more perspective-based or “snap” shot image are used for final works.  Ball wants the viewer to create his or her own meaning and interpretation of the images giving only a suggestive title for each of them.
Gallery artists will exhibit their own Edgy Art during the month of October.  Meet the artists at Third Friday, October 17, from 5 p.m.-8 p.m.  Martin Ball will showcase his original music during the event.  Regular gallery hours are 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., Tue.-Sat.  For more information, call (541) 770-3190.
