Oregon Poet Laureate Peter Sears

Peter Sears, Oregon’s Poet Laureate, will read his poetry and conduct a poetry writing demonstration, Sat. April 25, from 3:30-5:00 p.m., in the Adams Room at the Medford Library.  Participants should bring paper and pencils or a pen.  

A graduate of Yale and the Iowa Writers Workshop, Sears’ work has appeared in many national periodicals and newspapers such as Saturday Review, The New York TimesRolling Stone and others.  He has been published in literary magazines such as Field, New Letters, Iowa Review, and Poetry Northwest.  He has authored three full-length collections of poetry.  In 2009, The Brink, was named one of Oregon’s 150 best books by the Oregon State Library.  
After the workshop, a reception for Sears will be held at Art du Jour Gallery, 213 E. Main St., 5:15-6:00 p.m..   Refreshments will be served.  Attendees will have the opportunity to meet Sears and to join a poetry contest to win a painting.  The winner will be announced at Third Friday, May 15.
Tickets, limited to 40 guests, are $15 for adults and $10 for students 14-21 or for Art du Jour members.  Tickets must be purchased at Art du Jour Gallery, 213 Main St. Medford, which is hosting the afternoon events.  Gallery hours are 10-4, Tues.-Sat. and 5-8 on Third Friday.  For information, call (541) 770-3190 or check Facebook.
