Adornment, Mixed Media Paintings by Eric Peterson

Eric Peterson, Adornment #4, Mixed Media
This intense year of introspection and exploration has resulted in a new body of work from Eric Peterson. The inspiration for this recent work is cultural identity as expressed through dress and embellishment. These paintings explore adornment through building and excavating layers of paint, wax, stencils, and collage, capturing some of the beauty and mystery of our multicultural world.
On August 6, during First Friday, Eric will be present to answer questions about his work. Wine and chocolates will be served alongside live music by Peter Stone.

For the month of August, Gallerie Karon will feature the work of Vernon Lawhorn, Jane Lawhorn, and Judy Benson Le Neir. Passing away at 45, Vernon dearly loved Africa and always captured the animals and people in his work, while Jane did a fantastic job presenting it all while becoming an artist herself. Organizing photo safaris and traveling to a different location in Africa each year, Judy Benson Le Nier’s photographs reveal the inner workings of the wild animal’s mind.

Urban Hieroglyphs, Chris Carpenter

Chris Carpenter, Peerless Hotel, Etched Cotton Velvet
This month, Fiber Arts Collective features the work of Chris Carpenter.
The canvas of the street offers me coded messages from various markings that I refer to as Urban Hieroglyphs. These images are then etched onto cotton upholstery velvet to achieve the textures of various types of pavement. My work resembles concrete, but actually has the soft tactile quality of velvet. – Chris Carpenter

Painting Outside

Ilene Gienger-Stanfield, Sandbox, Oil
Ilene Gienger-Stanfield will be featuring her current plein air work at the Grants Pass Museum of Art this month.
The deeper I dig into art, the more there is. Several years ago, I was a consummate figurative pastel painter. At that time, I thought I always would be. However, there are many artistic options to investigate such as techniques, mediums, approaches, subjects and styles. It is exciting and inspirational to make a new discovery in art making. Currently I paint any subject and paint with oils as well as pastels. I am relying on innovation, intuition, and experience more. – Ilene Gienger-Stanfield
