Teen Mentoring Project at The Rogue Gallery and Art Center

Mentoring teens for their senior project is one of the most rewarding things I’ve done as an  arts instructor. In my opinion it is absolutely essential that artistically talented teens are given the opportunity to develop, experiment, gain knowledge, and work in an abundance of media. Oceanography

Rock formations are abundant here on the Oregon Coast. I’m drawn to their abstract quality. Refreshing! The early heat spell has gotten to me a bit.

Gardenias are probably one of my very favorite flowers. Their scent is my favorite too. When I was a kid I use to eat their petals (which are edible). There was something about their velvety texture that I was drawn to. Here’s a quick sketch of one on the bush.

Poppies in the Garden

Moon and Sun

This one is quite large (48″ x 24″) and rather than it being a chore, which painting large sometimes is, it went rather smoothly and was quite enjoyable.

High Country Trees

High Country Trees, oil by Silvia Trujillo

Working in a painterly and abstract way I wanted to focus on the strong light hitting the trees, the patterns, and the colors rather than putting energy into too much detail.
