Jacksonville Celebrates the Arts 2012

Celebrate the Arts 2012 is our 16th Annual event featuring 70 fine artists and artistic crafters, held at the Jacksonville Historic Courthouse gardens, 206 N. 5th Street, Jacksonville; Friday August 31, 11AM-6PM; Saturday & Sunday September 1 & 2, 10AM-5PM. You will find for your viewing and purchasing pleasure: paintings; photography; sculpture; hand crafted jewelry; furniture; wearable art; soaps, hoops, and natural fiber creations. Artists are from throughout southern Oregon and beyond. Entertainment twice daily, tasty meals & treats; and art demonstrations. Come for the day; stay for the weekend in Historic Jacksonville. Enjoy local hospitality,fine foods and wines, woodland hikes, and guided historic tours.

(Medford, OR) – August 3, 2012– The Rogue Gallery & Art Center will host Waking Dreams: Mortal Furniture, an exhibition of new works by California artist Kathryn Jacobi from August 24 through September 28, 2012.

Jacobi presents figurative works in oil, ‘Digital Hybrids,’ and computer generated prints inspired by her waking dreams, visions she experienced during the state between sleep and wakefulness. Classically trained as a painter, her realistic style lends to aesthetically rich narratives with human figures engaged in mysterious, frightening, and funny scenarios.  Jacobi’s work depicts states of being that are both familiar and unsettling.

Transitions: Paintings by Robert Beckmann & Clifford Wilton Scultpure by Ellen Wishnetsky-Mueller Clifford Wilton’s recent work sees a departure from his lush figurative abstracts to simpler graphic compositions of urban skyscapes. Mostly monochromatic, these paintings add a new dimension to a familiar, yet mostly ignored landscape.

Robert Beckmann has been creating art his entire life. His recent paintings explore new materials and procedures while grappling with questions such as: How does the microcosm mirror the macrocosm? When does a simplification of empirical reality become abstract? How do we find a balance between order and chance and, acknowledging that our consciousness is fragmented (by our pace and media disjunction), how can we become whole again and possibly heal our world?

This August Illahe Studios and Gallery will be hosting its Eighth Annual Sculpture Invitational featuring the work of 10 regional sculptors, from emerging artist to master craftsmen, working inventively in various media including iron, clay, wood, cement, recycled glass and found objects. Join us for an artist reception during the First Friday Art Walk on August 3rd from 5 to 8 p.m. with live music provided by singer and guitarist, David Kelley. Enjoy a stroll through the warm summer evening with other art lovers. Wine and light refreshments will be served. Show runs through August 25th.
