This Month at the GoodBean: Artist/Poet Anna Elkins

Song Angel, original acrylic on canvas by Anna Elkins

GoodBean Coffee Co. is pleased to present the art of Anna Elkins for the month of June. Once a familiar face in Jacksonville, Anna has been out of state continuing her education and life experience, returning home the day before we hung her show. We’re intrigued by what Anna has brought back to share with us, and asked her a few questions so you could learn more about what’s behind Anna’s work.

GoodBean Coffee Announces Change to its Art Presence Partnership…

Falls at Yosemite, watercolor on paper by Mae Wygant

We hosted a show of Mae’s stunning abstracts last summer and loved her work (Please see the interview our art curator and Art Matters! editor Hannah West did with Mae then). After seeing Wygant’s art in a different genre last month and getting to know her better, we’ve decided we want Mae to stay with us. She has produced art which is so diverse, both in subject and style, that we look forward to unique monthly displays which showcase a lifetime of experimentation and evolution in the work of this prolific and widely noted artist.

This Month at the Goodbean: Abstract Paintings by Artist Mae Wygant

August at the GoodBean Cafe: Abstracts by Mae Wygant

Last month I was starting to get the hang of it. This month, I feel like I’m getting somewhere. The day after hanging Mae’s striking work, I spoke with GoodBean owner Mary Kell and was happy to see her glowing about this month’s exhibit, saying “This is what I was after all along! You know, when it’s the dry looking part of summer, you just need some color! Something uplifting!” Well, in my opinion Mae owns color, and few individuals have I met who are so uplifting, both in their personal and professional lives. All I did was get the timing right! It’s so good to learn more on how art affects people in different situations, and I’ve learned something about cooling one’s mind from the “dog days” of summer.

Mae and I go back a year and a half or so. We’ve gotten to know each other well

July’s Art Display at the Goodbean

goodbeanlogo.jpg

After taking over the position of curating/coordinating the Goodbean’s art display in March and overseeing a few monthly artist rotations, I’m starting to get the hang of it. Though it’s a volunteer position, I find I’m delighted to take the time to do this, as we’re short on galleries and other venues for artists to show their work. Being in a position to help artists get their work “out there” has certainly added value to the Southern Oregon Artists Resource’s services and helped us establish a good reputation, both with artists and the community. Getting to know better the artists I already knew and meeting so many more as they inquire about the opportunity to join the Goodbean’s artist roster has deepened my understanding of the art world in Southern Oregon and confirmed my opinion that we are a hidden treasure of talent that deserves to be seen.  So,

Be good...Not Bitter! Goodbean Coffee

We hope you enjoyed last month’s exhibit, wildlife watercolors by Talent artist Marie Beveridge, photography by Adam Bickle and photography by Robin Thayer-Harvey. Their work got lots of positive feedback from people in the cafe.

This month the Goodbean features landscapes and floral still lifes by Medford artist Cindy Flowers, and a large landscape by Jacksonville artist Katy Cauker. When you’re in Jacksonville, please take a moment to get a good look at the work of these local artists while you enjoy an uplifting cup!
