Oak Sentinel

Oak Sentinel, by Silvia Trujillo

Oak  Sentinel

Since we had a few days of Spring-like weather I took advantage of the warmth and painted outdoors. This scene has always intrigued me because of the vast distance behind the lone oak. It snowed right after and I was able to get some photos of the same scene which looked like a completely different [...]

In this one I unified the scene with a background and foreground of harmonious blues ranging from aqua to lavender. I wanted to have the orange slice carry most of the interest in the painting. Looking at the composition now, I realize that the cup and oranges could have been moved a little closer together to create a slight tangent in the center of the painting which would have created a better compostion. Oh well, next time….

3 of a Kind

Three of a Kind, by Siliva Trujillo

This still life was set up with a complimentary color scheme in mind. Although the diffused light softens the dramatic effect, the color compliments and negative space in between the pears add quite a bit of visual interest.

Umbrellas on the River

Umbrellas on the River by Silvia Trujillo

Plein air painted at CSUS Aquatic Ctr. A bright, warm, and sunny winter’s day. The hills and foliage are in their winter coat and yet the intensity of the sun’s light created plenty of color on the water. What appealed to me about this scene was the wild nature of the river tamed by man made elements of umbrellas and the distant dock.
