Almost Organic…Labeling and its Effects on our Organic Producers

Though we’ve been aware of the confusing “green” labeling of many non-organic products for some time, we’ve recently learned more about how these misleading marketing tactics affect the producers of goods created using true organic products. With the rising awareness of the importance of organic farming and sustainable business practices for the health of our environment and local economies, many producers of organic goods have found larger markets available for their products. Unfortunately, the success these small, locally owned businesses have begun to enjoy has attracted the jealousy of larger corporations looking to continue their own growth in an area they had previously passed over, choosing greater profit margins over earth- and community-conscious practices.

With large advertising and marketing budgets, it’s not hard for these corporations to drown out the marketing efforts of small companies, using consumers’ brand loyalties against them with labeling tactics intended to confuse consumers into purchasing

Sixth Annual Oregon Cheese Festival Dishes up Delicious Events

Oregon-inspired culinary events, including a Meet the Winemakers and Cheesemaker Dinner and a farmer’s market-style artisan food and wine festival, will kick off with the Oregon Cheese Festival during the third weekend in March.

At the festival on Saturday March 20th, thousands of visitors will sample cow, sheep and goat cheese from Oregon and Northern California creameries, including Fraga Farm, Juniper Grove Farm, Pholia Farm, Tumalo Farms, Silver Falls Creamery, Siskiyou Crest Dairy, Tillamook County Creamery, Willamette Valley Cheese Co., Fern’s Edge Dairy, Rivers Edge Chevre, Ancient Heritage Dairy, Cypress Grove, Vella Cheese, Rogue Creamery, and many others.
